The ScribePay Virtual Card can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

It is a virtual card and can only be used for e-commerce/digital transactions. The Virtual Cards cannot be used for a point-of-sale purchase.

You must not use your card for:

  • Subscriptions to betting or gaming services;
  • Subscriptions to dating or escort services;

A prepaid card is a preloaded card. The card can be used to pay for goods and services, up to the value that is loaded onto it, wherever you see the Mastercard Acceptance Mark online.

3DS (also known as ‘Mastercard SecureCode’, ‘Identity Check’ and ‘Verified by Visa’) is a standard which helps to reduce fraud and provide extra security to your online payments. Authentication is the process by which you identify yourself by sharing secure information that is available only to you. 3DS 2.0 is the latest version and provides a much smoother and safer process for you to authenticate your payments.

ScribePay sends the OTP code via the app and not via SMS. Please make sure you enable notifications on your phone to receive the OTP.

Authentication provides an additional layer of security for online transactions, making it harder for fraudsters to gain access to your payment details. The first time a merchant request to take money from your account, we will request you to approve the payment before it is processed via our app.

You will receive a 6-digit One Time Password (OTP) for each online purchase you make at participating merchants. The OTP will pop up in your app. i Simply key in the OTP on the authentication page displayed and press the ‘Submit’ button. The OTP will then be verified by your card provider and the transaction will be approved or declined.

The partially masked mobile number and email address will be displayed on the authentication page so that you can check that those details are correct. If the mobile number and email address are incorrect, cancel the transaction and either update your information on the portal or contact Customer Services.

Yes, your card has been enrolled in Mastercard Secure Code (3DS) so that wherever you see the Mastercard Secure Code logo online, your card number will automatically be recognised during checkout. Your card provider is contacted during checkout to confirm your identity as the genuine cardholder.

If you ever suspect that a fraudulent purchase has been made using your card, contact Customer Services by emailing immediately hey@scribepayments.co.uk.

If, after reviewing the transaction, we believe that it was not authorised by you, you will be refunded as soon as possible, and we will investigate on your behalf. We may need to cancel and replace your card for security reasons. If we need to do so, you will not be charged for a new card and your remaining balance will be transferred across to the new card.

We will not carry out a credit check; however, we will carry out checks to verify your identity and address using an automated service. If you fail the automated checks, you will be asked to upload the following documents:

  • Proof of ID: Valid Passport, Photo Drivers License & National ID Card
  • Proof of Address: Bank Statement (must be from a high street bank as we don’t accept statements from online banks), Council tax, or electricity bill not dated more than 3 months old.

We only accept original PDF or pictures of original documents.

Your documents will then be verified by our compliance team, who will then contact you when a decision has been made or if they require any further information from you.

No, Cash withdrawal or Cashback is not permitted.

You cannot use your card for Point-of-sale transactions.

There are two ways you can top-up your wallet.

  • You can instantly move into your ScribePay wallet using your unique e-money wallet account. As a premium customer, this is free for up to £300 in a Calendar month. After that, a 2% fee will apply for each transfer. Please note, all transfers should be from your account as ScribePay is an extension of your bank account. Any transfers from third parties may lead to immediate account closure.
  • You can move money via our card process. If you move money via the card process, you will receive a notification whether the transaction has been successful or not. If successful, your Scribepay wallet will be automatically deposited with the top up amount and the card used to pay will reflect the wallet amount + the fee of 3% e.g £10 wallet top up will debit £10.30 from your account. If you want to return the money from your wallet back to the card this won’t be possible. However, since it’s already in your wallet, simply follow the move money process in the App and move the money from Scribepay wallet to your preferred bank account – This is an instant bank transfer and holds a payment out fee of £1. Any questions, please reach out to customer services via the in app live chat.

The funds in e-money accounts are stored and protected. As your funds are safeguarded, FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme) protection does not apply.

This is a virtual card. There is no PIN as we don’t support point of sale transactions.

Your card is a prepaid card, which means that you can only spend available funds on the card. Your card will be declined if there are not enough funds on the card for the purchase you are attempting. If for any reason a transaction is processed that exceeds your available funds, we may block your card, and you will be required to repay the amount owing immediately.

The card is valid until the expiry date showing on the front of your card.
